On the second Thursday of each month, about a half-dozen Hill Country friends settle into Coral Adema’s comfortable dining room and link into the IWC General Zoom meeting. (Attendees see only Coral’s name, but the rest are watching, too!). Afterward, they proceed to another important task: assembling hygiene kits for our bus backpacks.
This jolly group started in 2018 making complete backpacks and continued through March of 2020 when the pandemic brought much of our work to a halt. They geared up again this year and found a more practical project for both themselves and our bus backpack team: Each month they make 100 of the smaller, more portable hygiene kits. Hilary and Mark Mosty—or another San Antonio-bound friend—transport them to our assembly team where they are added to the backpacks.
The Kerrville Backpack Friends have become a real fellowship, always having fun while learning something new. Often someone else drops in to join the regulars. This generous group also takes responsibility for purchasing the necessary supplies independent of IWC’s budget.
Coral says, “I’m often asked if I’m a 501(c)(3). Of course, I’m not! Money has always miraculously come in when we need it.”
If you want to participate in that miracle, you can write a check to IWC with Coral’s name on the “For” (memo) line, and we will forward the same amount to her.
