BARBARA EDENS (1953-2026)

Barbara Carl Edens, longtime head of the IWC airport program, passed away in February. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Interfaith Welcome Coalition.

Barbara earned her college degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1975. She then completed her master’s degree in Spanish from the University of Texas, a field that became one of her greatest passions. On August 7, 1982, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Charles Edens, after a 12-year courtship. Barbara and Charles shared 55 years together and were married for 43 of those years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

Barbara began her teaching career with the Northside Independent School District, where she devoted 33 years to educating and inspiring students. Her love for the Spanish language and culture shaped both her studies and her travels.

A giving couple, Barbara and Charles also were trainers with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), helping families learn how to support and care for their loved ones.
