Have you ever said I’d really love to help but…
- I don’t speak Spanish
- It’s too much of a health risk to go to the bus station or airport
- I live too far away (New Braunfels, Kerrville, Wisconsin, Seattle, or Podunk, Maine…)
- I don’t have the physical strength or stamina
Great news! If you have internet access, a cell phone and texting skills, can speak English, and can work at night, we have two important volunteer opportunities for you!
1. Relaying written shelter requests from the Bus Station Volunteers to the staff at two shelters (aka Traffic Control)
- Time requirement: 4 hours, 1 day per week.
- Afternoon shift: 2 – 6 p.m.
- Evening shift: 6 – 10 p.m.
- Equipment requirements: cell phone
- Location: Anywhere
- Skills: texting, copying and pasting images within texts, communication abilities (patience, respect)
2. Entering the names of those needing overnight hospitality into a Google spreadsheet
- Time requirement: 2-3 hours, 1 evening per week, approx. 6 – 10 p.m. (flexible)
- Equipment requirement: computer, laptop, or tablet, and Internet access; cellphone with texting capability
- Location: Anywhere
- Skills: Using Google spreadsheets to enter names, ages, destinations, country of origin, and travel plans
For either opportunity, online training will be provided.
