Advocate on the State Level
The Texas 88th Legislature meets through May 29, and the IWC Advocacy Committee is paying close attention. “Any bills perceived as pro-immigrant will face an uphill battle,” says committee member Paul Ziese. “We need to have realistic expectations and know we will mostly be playing defense against bad bills.” Stay tuned to the Take Five section of your IWC newsletter, where we’ll be asking you to speak out to your electors against legislation harming immigrants and asylum seekers.

In the meantime, let’s keep pushing on the national level. Shortly after President Biden called for lawmakers to act on immigration reform, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) joined Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) to reintroduce the DREAM Act
