After an August 5th decision by the Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, DACA (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) remains in limbo, impacting thousands of immigrant youth and preventing many more eligible persons from applying for relief.
“The enormous contributions of DACA recipients to our country…have been vital to all of us, especially as they have often been in roles of first responders,” said IWC Board Chair and Advocacy Committee member Terry Burton, whose statement was among those of faith group leaders quoted in national media. “They have grown up in our communities and should be considered quickly for permanent protections with full citizenship through legislative action. To continue to keep them in cycles of instability is unjust and fails to benefit the overall welfare of this nation.”
We need a permanent solution—comprehensive immigration reform—now.
