On May 27, students of the San Antonio College (SDAC) Center for Civic Engagement made 100 lunch bags for migrants and delivered them to the Mennonite Church on St. Mary’s Street. The event was part of a Staff Development Day.
“San Antonio Community College Student Life has been a partner of IWC for several years. The students have provided sack lunches to the IWC migrants twice a year. In addition, the IWC’s Children’s Coordinator, Kabibi Gambo, is assisting families staying at the hotel that are transported to the Mennonite Church during the day,” says Tori Salas, IWC Executive Director. “Having families at the Mennonite Church allows families to leave the hotel, eat a meal in a dining room area, and receive parenting resources. The SAC meal donation will go to the Mennonite Church for their Family Day Respite Center. The migrants will significantly appreciate this donation.”
