“Every once in a while, a box of these dolls just shows up at my door,” says Mary Grace Ketner, board member and a former co-chair of IWC. “They add a personal touch to our backpacks.”
Curious as to how the handmade dolls come about, she asked Betsy Young, whose address label is always on the packages. Betsy replied:
“Our ‘Stitch’ group has met at our Unitarian Universalist Church at Washington Crossing near Titusville, NJ, for years on the second and fourth Wednesday morning each month.
We have done some group projects and also worked on our individual interests, including quilting, knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching.
I don’t remember how or when we found out about the need for the dolls, but we received the pattern and four or five of us made them for several years. When Covid hit, we were told not to send anymore so we kept the sixteen we had and hoped that eventually they’d be needed. We are so happy that the project continues and that our dolls have found good homes. Many thanks and thank you for all you do.”
Thank you, too, Betsy and “Stitch” Group!
