Bee Moorhead and Bobby Watson from Texas Impact offered IWC staff and volunteers a four-hour training on how to effectively advocate on behalf of immigrants. The training, held at The San Antonio Mennonite Fellowship Church, included a discussion of possible Texas legislation that may impact immigrants, an overview of the Texas legislative process, and specific ways community members can impact the outcome, such as signing up to get email alerts when there are actions to be taken regarding immigration issues. (Many of these actions are very brief, such as taking five minutes to send an email or sign a petition).
People can also sign-up for a weekly e-newsletter from Texas Impact on a variety of issues, such as immigration, civil rights, public education, climate change, reproductive rights and gun violence.
The event concluded with an invitation to attend (live in Austin, or virtually) the United Women of Faith event on Sunday, January 26 through Tuesday, Jan. 28. The event includes two days of speakers, inspiration, and workshops where women can connect with others of a like mind who are ready to put their faith into action. On the third day, attendees will visit the Capitol and meet with lawmakers. For more information, watch this video. To register, click here.
