IWC’s Advocacy Committee Chair Yvonne Dilling and Sandra Torres, IWC bus station volunteer, participated in the SA Stands yearly retreat. Founded in 2018, SA Stands is a non-partisan collaborative of the city of San Antonio and Bexar County. It believes no human being is disposable and works towards the abolishment of systems that are racist and dehumanizing. Through organized campaigns, advocacy efforts, community education, and direct action, SA Stands will mobilize against any laws and efforts that criminalize, incarcerate, deport and divide communities.
SA Stands continues to work towards the launch and expansion of the Immigrant Legal Defense Fund, ending anti-immigrant laws and programs like Operation Lone Star and SB4, and developing alternative non-police models of public safety in San Antonio and Bexar County.
