The Interfaith Welcome Coalition (IWC) is pleased to announce that Laura Varela has been hired as our Communications Director (Contractor) to assist with the creation, organization, and editing of communication assets to ensure professional and consistent messaging across media channels.
Varela, president of Varela Films, is a bilingual (Spanish/English), award-winning documentarian with a passion for creating thought-provoking films about Xicanx/Tejano/Indigenous and immigrant communities. In addition to her documentary work, she is an accomplished communications professional with a strong background in media relations, social media management, and content creation. She has four years of volunteer experience with the IWC (2018—2021), serving in a variety of capacities: communications chair, board member, contributing to the IWC’s collection of photos/videos, and website development. She has a BA in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin and has attended numerous continuing education trainings.
