Last month, the CDC announced that it will end Title 42 on May 23 — a hard-fought victory made possible by asylum seekers, faith leaders, medical and public health experts, Congressional leaders, and other advocates.
However, some lawmakers are attempting to override this decision by forcing a vote on legislation that would continue Title 42. The Senate could vote to keep Title 42 in place as early as this week.
If Title 42 is upheld, people will continue to be sent back to danger rather than receiving the compassionate welcome that they need and deserve.
As people of faith and conscience, we can’t let this happen. We must continue to defend the legal right to seek asylum and stand with our siblings fleeing violence and persecution.
