This year, IWC has contracted with Sister Denise LaRock to assist with faith-based collaborations and networks.
IWC has collaborated intensely with West Ave Compassion, Comunidad Impacto and Roco De Refugio. Pastor Dianne Garcia of Roca De Refugio has created the San Antonio Immigrant Support Coalition, which has numerous working groups to help immigrants in San Antonio, ranging from translating documents to organizing donations. Many IWC members have participated in the working groups.
Morning vigils are held in front of the courthouse every Monday at 8 am to pray for the safety of immigrants attending court.
On Nov. 19, an Interfaith Vigil Celebrating Immigrants was held outside of San Fernando Cathedral in which an astonishing 150 people participated. IWC leaders Sr Denise LaRock, Rebecca Flores, Kabibi Bamuamba and Katie Myers participated.
Faith leaders from Muslim, Christian and Jewish faith joined together to call for justice and compassion for immigrants. These faith leaders included Pastor Dianne Garcia (Iglesia Cristiana Roca de Refugio), Pastor Liliana Padilla (Impacto Comunitario), Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, and Rabbi Mara Nathan (Temple Beth-El).
In December, 750 Christmas Cards were written and distributed to people in detention centers. Funds were also collected to buy 450 coloring books for Christmas for the families at the Dilley detention center.
