On Tuesday, January 28, five Traveling Mercies authors read their moving, personal stories of encounters with asylum seekers to a group of 20 guests at The Twig Book Shop in the Pearl. Those who shared their stories were Terry Burton, who read “A Gift of Peace”, Dawn Silvius (“Building Bridges”), Chili Ornelas (“A Loving Mother”), Judy Godinez (“Reina”), and Jan Olsen (“Small Acts — Huge Difference”). The book’s editor, Mary Grace Ketner, emceed and gave some background on IWC and on the publication process.
Traveling Mercies: Encounters with Asylum Seekers, includes 71 stories by 31 authors, written by IWC volunteers who – over the past 10 years – have welcomed the families and individuals arriving in San Antonio’s Greyhound Bus Station or International Airport en route to families or shelters in other US cities. You can purchase a copy here. A portion of the proceeds from each sale benefits the IWC.
