A federal judge recently ruled that the administration can now end the use of Title 42, a 1944 law unearthed by the former administration to expel asylum seekers under a public health pretext despite having no basis in fact. But lawmakers in both parties––instead of doing the hard work needed to pass comprehensive immigration reform––are attempting to override medical experts by passing legislation in Congress that would continue Title 42 expulsions indefinitely––as standalone bills or amendments to must-pass legislation.
