In a rare victory for human rights, the Supreme Court recently ruled that the Biden administration can end the egregious Migrant Protection Protocol “remain in Mexico” policy implemented by the former administration. IWC news followers need to look no further than the recent kidnapping of coalition partner Pastor Lorenzo to know how dangerous this policy has been, with Human Rights Watch recording over 1500 cases of kidnapping, rape, and murder since its inception. The court’s decision is a welcome one.
But Title 42, used to expel asylum seekers under a public health pretext despite having no basis in fact, remains in use; and a bipartisan group of legislators is working on a bill to codify it into U.S. law.
