The Interfaith Welcome Coalition, a broad, faith-based group dedicated to meeting the ever-changing needs of asylum seekers and at-risk immigrants is urging the Biden administration to streamline the processing and release of children/unaccompanied minors who have crossed America’s southern border seeking safety and are currently being housed at the Freeman Coliseum.
“We are hearing very concerning stories from our partners and volunteers who have toured the facility,” said Tori Salas, Coordinating Director of the organization. “Processing these boys out was supposed to take a week or so. I understand it is now up to 37 days. That’s just unacceptable. The problem appears to be a lack of staffing,” she added.
IWC is now reaching out to our members and social media followers to help publicize this need. “There is a desperate need for bilingual social workers at the Freeman Coliseum. They will be paid. And they needed to start yesterday.”
The Interfaith Welcome Coalition was formed in 2014 to assist migrant children who were entering the US.
