“No one knows asylum seekers like the San Antonians who encounter them.”
So says Elaine Ayala in her opinion piece in the San Antonio Express-News lauding the IWC book Traveling Mercies: Encounters with Asylum Seekers. The book was edited by IWC volunteer Mary-Grace Ketner and features 71 stories written by 31 IWC volunteers.
The article also covered the book’s live reading at Texas Public Radio on Feb. 19, and its subsequent radio broadcast on TPR’s The Source on Feb. 24. The stories were chosen to show the humanity of people arriving in our country. The panel supported his point that the U.S. can secure its borders without cruelty.
