Whew! We made it through the recording session! Front row: Michelle Rumbaut, Robin Raquet, Katie Myers, Sr. Denise La Rock. Back Row: David Martin Davies, Mary Grace Ketner, Jonathan Ryan, Dawn Silvius.
Texas Public Radio’s “The Source” will feature stories from IWC’s book “Traveling Mercies: Encounters with Asylum Seekers” on Monday, Feb. 24, noon-1 p.m. or 8-9 p.m.
Dawn Silvius, Katie Myers, Robin Raquet, Michelle Rumbaut and Mary Grace Ketner each read one of their stories, then Host David Martin Davies continued the program with a panel consisting of Ketner (the book’s editor), Immigration Attorney Jonathan Ryan, and Sr. Denise LaRock, a longtime leader, supporter and friend of IWC.
Sr. Denise had been working with the recently closed San Antonio and Catholic Charities’ Centro de Bienvenidos (MIgrant Resource Center) as part of her calling to serve immigrants. For now, she will continue working with Catholic Charities and others to determine the best way to help the low number of immigrants presently arriving in San Antonio.
Davies chose the stories to show the humanity of people arriving in our country. The panel supported his point that the U.S. can secure its borders without cruelty.
After the Monday broadcasts, the recording will be available here under “Latest Episodes,” February 24. The book is available here. A portion of each sale benefits IWC.
