I wish I could give you days of joy
Bring you pop cycles to cool
Your little mouths
And water sprinklers
To dance in the cool water.
I wish I could give you
Joy on hot summer days
A happiness
That all children deserve to know.
When you are in ice cold
Cages at night- I would
Like to bring you soft, warm
Blankets and sleeping bags
To cuddle in
And laugh again telling
Stories to each other.
For those of you torn away
From your parents- I
Would love to see you
Reunited soon
With those you love.
I wish and pray for all
These things for you-
Dear little ones who
Have suffered so much
For no reason.
Most of all I hope and pray
That our legislators
Will soon pass immigration
Laws that will help you.
I always think of you
And pray for you
And cry for you
And hope our country
Will soon return to what
It used to be-
So that when a person
Gives you a drink of water
They won’t be arrested.
