The Interfaith Welcome Coalition (IWC) of San Antonio decided to take #BoldBorderAction against the US policies aimed at immigrants, the latest that have  increased our concern a hundredfold are: (1) the El Paso massacre of 22 people which was a violent expression of an ongoing assault against Latinos in Texas and (2) the Remain-in-Mexico (RIM) policy that puts  people in harm’s way–those men, women and children who have a right to ask for asylum in the U.S. but who are being returned to Mexico to wait for their court date which may take years. Fifty percent never reappear and we don’t know what happens to them.  As recent as September 19, one mother and child from Honduras, desperate to join her husband in the US, drowned in the Rio Grande at Val Verde County, Texas.  (see this link for background information folder)

As people who are concerned for our neighbor, we must act together to change policies of our government that allow these inhumane acts to occur, and we must bear witness as an act of justice to establish the truth.  Our sacred purpose is the core of who we are.  We at this point in time must embrace our values in the Sermon on the Mount:  Blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  (see this link for faith resources.)

Some of us are starting a FAST TO STOP THE VIOLENCE AGAINST PEOPLE OF COLOR.  We encourage others to do the same, following our own faith traditions, so that we understand the depth of our faith and how it can impact others.  (See the Fast Declaration on this link)

We would like for you to join us in Laredo, on Oct 26, or if that is not possible to organize your own action in your own city/town on that day.  (see the informational flyer folder on this link)

Please invite many people to join in this demonstration, people of all religious faiths, and those with none, invite all of our allies in this movement–artists, singers, Mexican American groups, leaders of the sympathetic political parties,  labor unions, immigrant-focused groups, community organizations, elected officials and so on. (see the attached Resolution)

We must also take action to end these policies.  (see this link for the Call to Action).

Develop a media plan, that includes a social media plan, so that our events get the maximum coverage across the nation.  (see this link for the Media kit folder)
